About BalanceBuddy
BalanceBuddy is a free tool that plans every credit card payment from your paycheck so you never pay interest — then helps you earn points on what you already spend, and turn them into award flights.
Independent project · Made for everyday cardholders
Why we built it
Juggling several credit cards is a timing problem as much as a math problem. Each card has its own statement closing date, its own due date, and its own minimum payment, while your money arrives on a different schedule entirely — every two weeks, twice a month, or monthly. Miss the alignment and you get a late fee or carry a balance you could have avoided. Spreadsheets help, but they go stale the moment a balance changes.
BalanceBuddy was built to do that timing math automatically. You tell it your income and pay schedule, add your cards, and it works out a per-paycheck plan: how much to send to each card, in what order, so every statement is covered before its due date.
Paying on time is only half of it. The same spending that clears your statement earns points — so BalanceBuddy also ranks your cards by what each one earns in a category, tracks what the points you're sitting on are actually worth, and prices what a real award flight would cost in points. Those tools sit together on a single Rewards screen rather than scattered across the app.
Two details it gets right that spreadsheets usually don't: a card billed on the 31st stays on the 31st instead of drifting to the 28th after February, and a payment you've already made stops being subtracted from your available cash as soon as your bank balance catches up.
What it does
- Smart payment calculator. Given your income, pay dates, balances, and due dates, it computes how much to pay each card from every paycheck, and from which bank account, so nothing falls behind.
- Live dashboard. All your cards, balances, due dates, statement closing dates, and minimum payments on one screen — plus what's worth your attention right now.
- Optional bank sync via Plaid. Connect checking and credit-card accounts so balances and amounts due update automatically — or skip it and enter cards by hand.
- Card benefits tracker. A catalog of credits, statement perks, and bonuses across major cards, with usage and expiry tracking.
- One Rewards screen. Which card to reach for in a category, whether an annual fee is paying for itself, the welcome offers worth chasing, what your points are worth, where they transfer, and what an award flight would actually cost.
- Free guides, no signup. The Points Simulator, Transfer Partners, Signup Bonuses, and Award Pricer all work without an account.
How it works
- 1. Create an account with a passkey — your device's fingerprint, face, or PIN. There are no passwords to remember or leak.
- 2. Add your cards and income. Enter cards manually or connect a bank through Plaid for automatic syncing.
- 3. Follow the plan. Your dashboard shows exactly how much to pay each card from every paycheck — plus what the points you've earned are worth.
Security & privacy first
Sign-in is passwordless through WebAuthn passkeys. When you connect a bank, your credentials go straight to Plaid through their hosted flow — we never see them — and the access tokens we store are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM. We don't sell or share your financial data. Read the details in our Privacy Policy.
Not financial advice
